They work together at ‘Schwarz Weiss Tattoo’ in Saarland (Germany), and recently added their dream home to this space. Let’s hear from Sascha about his unique relationship with tattoo art and his partner, Julia Theodora.
Sascha, tell me a little about yourself? Was the desire to become a tattoo artist “contagious” from a young age?
No. I never actually wanted to be a tattoo artist. I’ve been drawing my whole life, but I never had the ambition to tattoo. When I was 21, I got my first tattoo, and the artist at the time looked at my drawings and told me I absolutely had to start tattooing. So I jumped right in tattooing – on myself and on friends, in my room.
Do you think you’ve had one or more teachers along your artistic path, or do you consider yourself a complete self-made tattoo artist?
I taught myself everything. No apprenticeship, no classic entry. For years I analyzed the work of other artists and tried to translate drawing techniques to the machine. My current style grew out of my drawings and my love for Realism, Neo-Traditional elements, and classic charcoal painting.
Have you already had all the satisfaction with your portraits, or are you inspired by a particular character (male or female) that you would tattoo in an hour?
I think I’ll never feel completely satisfied with my whole work, but I learn something new every day. I mainly focus on Portrait work, but statues fascinate me as well. The artistry behind them is immense!
Stylistically I work between Realism and Neo-Traditional, stripped down to the essentials, clean, soft, and focused.
How was your 2025?
2025 was a big year: we bought a house and built our own studio ‘Schwarz Weiss Tattoo’ (IG: @schwarzweisstattoo) exactly the way we wanted it. Because of the renovation phase, I wasn’t very present online.
What big plans do you have in store for 2026?
In 2026 I want to put more time back into painting and tattooing. The social-media industrialization of the scene isn’t good for the art, and I want to focus more on the craft again.
You and your partner, Julia Theodora, both specialize in Realistic Black-and-Grey tattoos at your ‘Schwarz Weiss Tattoo’ studio in Saarland, Germany. What do you think are the stylistic differences between the two of you, if any?
Almost none. Me and Julia Theodora (IG: @julia_theodora_tattoo) perceive things similarly and therefore draw similarly. That was already the case before she learned from me – and that similarity is one of the things that brought us closer as a couple.
Since the passing of Ozzy Osbourne (2025 July 22nd), have you received any new proposals for a live tribute to him? Especially since your portrait of the Madman is truly intense and respectful of his legacy…
I regularly get requests for musician portraits – Chester Bennington or Kurt Cobain, for example. That’s a recurring theme for me.
And your last famous words are… ?
I hope the tattoo scene finds its way back to its roots and puts the art back in the center instead of marketing and success.
